ShoreFlex® - Culvert End Treatment

Standard practices for culvert installations call for the ends of the culverts to be armored. The problem here was that typical rock rip rap was not readily available and was going to be very expensive to use as an armoring solution.

Titan Solution

Titan supplied ShoreFlex®, a high-strength geogrid encapsulated in a matrix of concrete blocks used for the end treatment of culverts. Typically, the finishing treatments for these culverts would be riprap. Due to the higher cost of rip rap and its lower performance, Titan proposed ShoreFlex as a superior and more cost-effective alternative. Not only is it less expensive, but it also allows for vegetation and can be mowed over, which is not possible with rip rap. ShoreFlex® is also held in place, whereas rip rap can be removed or shifted with the passing of water.

ShoreFlex® is a roll-out vegetative concrete block mat used as a permanent erosion control solution. 

Achievement

Titan supplied the product and offered installation assistance on site. The installation went quicker than expected, and ShoreFlex® is proving to be a viable solution.
