Challenge:

Commerce Street West is a key municipal roadway in Neepawa, Manitoba. Constructed over weak, swampy soils and subjected to daily heavy truck traffic, including vehicles servicing a nearby concrete plant, the roadway had experienced repeated pavement failures for years.

Achievement:

Rather than completing another conventional mill-and-fill rehabilitation, the Town worked with Titan Environmental to evaluate a pavement reinforcement solution that would improve long-term performance.

Challenge

Neepawa_challengeThe Galloping Goose Commerce Street West is a key municipal roadway in Neepawa, Manitoba.

Constructed over weak, swampy soils and subjected to daily heavy truck traffic, including vehicles servicing a nearby concrete plant, the roadway had experienced repeated pavement failures for years.

The unstable subgrade led to extensive alligator cracking, pavement movement, and ongoing maintenance, prompting the Town to seek a longer-lasting rehabilitation solution.

Titan Solution

Neepawa SolutionRather than completing another conventional mill-and-fill rehabilitation, the Town worked with Titan Environmental to evaluate a pavement reinforcement solution that would improve long-term performance.

Spartan Road Grid™ was incorporated into the September 2021 rehabilitation project to reinforce the asphalt structure, reduce reflective cracking, and extend pavement service life.

Approximately 20 rolls were installed as part of the project without disrupting paving operations.

Achievement

IMG_2524 AchivementThe rehabilitation was completed successfully in September 2021, with approximately 20 rolls of Spartan Road Grid™ installed as part of the pavement structure.

Installation was completed efficiently with no significant impact on the paving schedule, allowing the Town to reinforce the roadway without disrupting construction operations.

Five-Year Results:

Town of Neepawa Spartan Road GridFive years after construction, Commerce Street West continues to demonstrate the long-term value of pavement reinforcement for municipal roadways built over challenging subgrade conditions.

What began as an effort to address recurring pavement failures has resulted in a roadway that has required minimal maintenance while continuing to withstand daily heavy truck traffic.

For the Town of Neepawa, the project has delivered more than improved pavement performance - it has reduced maintenance demands and generated measurable long-term cost savings.

"After our initial paving we've done very little to the road. No pothole repair, with crack sealing scheduled for this year. Just in the savings on pothole repairs alone, we've paid for the Spartan Road Grid™ several times over.” Denis Saquet, Manager of Operations, Town of Neepawa
