Municipal Drain Pipe Protection

The Township of Langley typically used Fernco Flexible Couplings for municipal drain pipe repairs, but these couplings were expensive and often ineffective when connecting pipes of varying sizes or configurations.

The Titan Solution

In March 2016, the township trialed and later adopted Concrete Canvas (CC) 8mm batched material as an alternative. CC was selected for its adaptability, allowing it to mold to different pipe shapes and sizes, with potential use for diameters up to 600mm.

Concrete Canvas® (CC) is a Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mat (GCCM), a factory-produced material combining cement within geosynthetic layers that hardens when hydrated for erosion control and weed suppression.

Achievement

Using just under 5 square meters of CC, the township successfully completed an initial trial and two separate pipe wrapping installations, demonstrating CC as a more effective and efficient solution for drainage replacement and rehabilitation projects.
