Landfill Cell Lining

Industry
Solid Waste Management
Challenge:
A new landfill cell was under construction to safely contain automotive shredder waste and meet environmental regulations by preventing soil contamination from non-recyclable materials.
Achievement:
Despite a delayed start and cold weather, the project was completed on time and under budget by a small crew.
Product Used:
Nonwoven Geotextile, HDPE Liners, Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL)
Location: Whitby, ON
Project Type: Product Supply & Installation
Product Used: Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL), 40mil DST HDPE Geomembrane, Woven & Nonwoven Geotextile
Challenge
A new landfill was being developed for the disposal of automotive shredder waste, which is where obsolete automobiles are shredded. Metal is removed to be recycled, and any remaining components, such as plastics, fibers, and glass, are disposed of at this dump. The landfill cell needed to be lined for environmental requirements to prevent soil contamination.
Titan Solution
Titan supplied and installed geosynthetic clay liner (GCL), as well as 40mil DST HDPE geomembrane liner. On top of that, two separation cushion layers of, 8oz nonwoven geotextile and W315 woven geotextile, were also installed.
Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCLs) are advanced geocomposites made from geotextile layers enclosing sodium bentonite, offering a modern alternative to traditional compacted clay liners.
Achievement
Despite that the start of construction was slightly delayed, resulting in colder conditions, our small crew was able to complete the project on time and under budget.
