GEOTUBE® - Lagoon Desludging

Industry
Wastewater
Challenge:
To restore capacity in a municipal lagoon, approximately six 60’ x 100’ GEOTUBE® geotextile tubes were used to dewater and contain pumped bio-solids, with the liquid collected in a lined berm and sump for removal.
Achievement:
Titan not only supplied the GEOTUBE® geotextile and completed a previously abandoned desludging project, but also added value by lining the temporary berm—leading to a follow-up contract to re-line the lagoon cell, which was also completed successfully.

Challenge
Desludging of biosolids in municipal lagoons.
Titan Solution
Over time, the accumulation of biosolids in municipal lagoons reduces holding capacity, requiring periodic desludging. In this project, GEOTUBE® geotextile tubes were used to remove the bio-solid sludge with the goal of restoring the lagoon’s capacity. Slurry from the lagoon was pumped into approximately six 60’ x 100’ GEOTUBE® units, which were contained within a temporary sloped berm lined with 20-mil Titan TRP-200R geomembrane. As the tubes dewatered, the liquid flowed into a depressed sump area where it was pumped out, while the bio-solids remained in the tubes for disposal after drying.
Achievement
Not only did Titan supply the GEOTUBE® geotextile, but we also successfully completed the desludging project that had been abandoned by the previous contractor, providing added value by lining the temporary berm. Due to the client’s satisfaction with our work, we were subsequently contracted to re-line the lagoon cell, which we also completed successfully.
