Wastewater Lagoon Cells: Multi-layer Geosynthetic Lining System

Industry
Wastewater
Challenge:
Titan collaborated with the customer and design engineer to overcome initial concerns with the original lagoon cell design, proposing a more efficient lining method over berms.
Achievement:
Titan successfully supplied and installed over 586,000 SF of geosynthetics, completing the multi-cell wastewater lagoon project on time and within budget.
Product Used:
HDPE Geomembrane Liner, Woven Geotextile
Location: Reynolds, Manitoba
Project Type: Product Supply & Installation
Product Used: 4x - 60mil HDPE Doubled-sided Textured Geomembrane, Geotextiles, Woven Geotextiles
Challenge
A wastewater lagoon lining system was to be installed in Southeastern Manitoba inclusive of four individual cells. The original designs included intermediate trenches between all four of the cells.
The Titan Solution
Titan worked with the customer and design engineer on material recommendations to complete the project which included the installation of 586,094 SF (54,450 m2) of 60mil HDPE for 4 cells along with a supply of 22 Rolls (4.57m x 91.5m) – TE-8 NW Geotextile, 33 Rolls (5.33m x 78.64m) – TE-W315 Woven Geotextile, and 15 m (8 & 7m long pcs) – 600mm x 2.0mm Gal CSP c/w 1 coupler.
The original design had intermediate trenches between all four lagoon cells. This posed some initial concerns, so we worked with the contractor and were able to show that our methodology of lining over the berms was more efficient. We also communicated anchor trench backfill instructions to the contractor. Overall, our recommendations were approved, which we considered beneficial to the completed project.
HDPE geomembrane is a high-strength, impermeable plastic liner made from high-density polyethylene, widely used in environmental and civil engineering projects to prevent fluid migration in applications like landfills, mining, and water containment systems due to its durability, chemical resistance, and UV stability.
Achievement
Titan provided turn-key service for this project, from design recommendations to material supply and installation. Our expertise helped achieve the most effective, long-lasting, and affordable solution for the client. Working in hot conditions, our crew of seven technicians and one tenured site supervisor achieved the necessary production value completing the job on schedule and within budget.
