Challenge
Spring flooding causing damage and erosion to roadside ditching
Titan Solution
Cable Concrete®, an advanced articulated concrete block system for erosion protection, was selected by Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation (MIT) for a location in Brandon that required a superior erosion control solution. The project involved installing a total of 2,000 m2 GC2 Cable Concrete® mats as a road overtopping protective layer along PTH 1A – 1st Street on the northeast side of the new PTH 1A CPR bridge. In this area, the Assiniboine Riverbank commonly overflows during the spring, causing water to be pushed over the road and eroding the ditch.
One of the most up-to-date erosion control materials, Cable Concrete®, integrates strong flexible stainless steel cables into a high-strength concrete providing durability and flexibility.
