Bund Lining (Oil and gas)

Industry
Oil & Gas
Challenge:
Limited site access and the need for effective weed suppression made traditional bund lining methods like crushed gravel impractical for this remote oil and gas facility.
Achievement:
The Concrete Canvas® installation was completed efficiently in just two 8-hour days, surpassing client expectations and providing a durable 120-year solution.

Challenge
Frontier Petroleum faced logistical and environmental challenges while planning a bund lining application at an oil and gas facility in Eastern Canada. The site had limited access, and traditional materials like crushed gravel were deemed unsuitable due to installation complexity and poor weed suppression.
The Titan Solution
Titan supplied 5 mm batched roll Concrete Canvas® (CC) Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mat (GCCM), chosen for its ease of installation, long-term durability (120-year design life), and effective weed control. Ground preparation included vegetation removal, substrate re-grading, and HDPE 60mil membrane installation. The CC was laid transversely, sealed with Soudaseal and 20mm screws, and hydrated using water from a nearby fire hydrant.
Concrete Canvas® (CC) is a Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mat (GCCM), a factory-produced material combining cement within geosynthetic layers that hardens when hydrated for erosion control and weed suppression.
Achievement
Despite cool October temperatures (5–10°C), the installation was completed in just two 8-hour days. The efficient process exceeded client expectations and delivered a robust, low-maintenance solution tailored to the site’s constraints.
