Baffle Curtain System, Underground Water Treatment Facility

Industry
Wastewater
Challenge:
Titan was tasked with increasing the efficiency of a large underground water treatment facility by designing and installing a complex baffle curtain system to maximize water contact time with treatment chemicals.
Achievement:
Titan successfully fabricated, supplied, and installed a potable water geomembrane baffle curtain system, leveraging their expertise to overcome installation challenges and enhance the facility’s treatment capacity.
Product Used:
Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta
Project Type: Product Supply & Installation
Product Used: Potable Water Geomembrane (XR-3 PW)
Challenge
The water treatment facility consisted of a large underground concrete clear well whereby untreated water entered one side and exited on the opposing side. The client was looking to increase the capacity of the clear well to improve the water treatment process.
The Titan Solution
Titan fabricated, supplied and installed a potable water geomembrane baffle curtain system. The purpose of the baffle curtain system is to direct the water through a winding route from the inlet, forcing it to take the longest path to the outlet. This increases the contact time of treatment chemicals with the water to improve the treatment process. The baffle curtains were hung vertically and affixed to the concrete on all sides using stainless steel hardware.
Achievement
We were chosen for this project due to our expertise with geomembrane fabrication and installation, in addition to our reputation in being able to quickly adapt and overcome unexpected installation challenges.
Titan prefabricated and installed 132, 266 SF of 30mil Smooth LLDPE geomembrane panels and 44, 088 SF of Geocomposite Drainage Layer over a period of 4 days with three highly trained technicians.
