Challenge
This closure dam project near Fort McMurray, AB, needed slope erosion control solutions that were cost effective and long lasting.
Titan Solution
The closure dam project in Aurora, North Mine, Alberta, was initially designed to be completed with 700mm of Rip-Rap Rock and geotextile for slope erosion control measures. After consulting with the client, Titan proposed a longer-lasting and more cost-effective solution, which included lining the dam slopes with PYRAMAT®, a high-performance turf reinforcement mat (HPTRM) made of woven polypropylene geotextile. An impressive 484,376 SF (45,000 m2) of material was supplied and installed.
PYRAMAT®75 is a high-performance turf reinforcement mat (HPTRM) made of woven polypropylene geotextile.
Achievement
With nearly two decades in the geosynthetic industry, Titan was able to provide a long-lasting and economical solution. Less material (rolls) than originally budgeted for was used to complete the project while maintaining our Titan quality control standards. The thirteen-man installation team braved weather elements, remained safe, and used their experience and expertise to complete the job in record time.
