Mining Spillway & Dam Raise — Multi-layer Lining System

Ascot L225009 (1)

Industry

Mining

Challenge:

This project faced harsh weather conditions and frequent rock blasts that damaged the geomembrane, requiring ongoing repairs and strict quality control during installation.

Achievement:

Despite these obstacles, Titan successfully installed approximately 360,000 ft² of HDPE geomembrane and geotextile to high standards, ensuring durability and environmental compliance.

Product Used:

HDPE Geomembrane Liner, Nonwoven Geotextile

Location: Stewart, British Columbia

Project Type: Product Supply & Installation

Product Used: 60mil smooth HDPE &  non-woven Geotextile

Challenge

A mineral development company on a Northern mine site in British Columbia required a geosynthetic solution for a mining spillway and dam raise.

The Titan SolutionAscot Dam and Spill Solmax Geomembrane (1)

Championed as a geosynthetic solutions leader, Titan was selected as the main supplier and installer for this project. The system consisted of a 60mil Textured HDPE geomembrane liner along with a TE -12 oz nonwoven geotextile underlay acting as a cushion. These materials were chosen for their cost-effectiveness, strong chemical resistance, and environmentally friendly nature.

HDPE geomembrane is a high-strength, impermeable plastic liner made from high-density polyethylene, widely used in environmental and civil engineering projects to prevent fluid migration in applications like landfills, mining, and water containment systems due to its durability, chemical resistance, and UV stability.

Achievement

The site conditions were difficult with frequent rain and snow, and the occurrence of rock blasts every two days. Debris from these blasts caused damage to the already deployed geomembrane, which required repairing. Despite these challenges, our team was committed to maintaining high quality standards. We went above and beyond to ensure that the geomembrane was welded to the required standards and that all seams were properly tested. We did not compromise on quality while installing approximately 360,000ft² (33,000 m²) of HDPE geomembrane and geotextile.
