Mine Dam Raise Lining, HDPE

Industry
Mining
Challenge:
The Titan team overcame significant logistical and safety challenges posed by the remote location and steep slopes of the Laonil Lake mine dam raise project.
Achievement:
Despite these difficulties, the team safely installed 12,750 m² of liner and completed the project ahead of schedule, resulting in cost savings and high praise from the contractor.
Product Used:
HDPE Geomembrane Liner, Nonwoven Geotextile
Location: Laonil Lake, SK
Project Type: Product Installation
Product Used: 80mil smooth HDPE & 12oz non-woven Geotextile
Challenge
This project involved lining a dam raise at a mine site in Nothern Saskatchewan. The remoteness of this site presented logistical complexities for transporting the equipment required for the installation, and the installation itself needed to be done on an extremely steep slope presenting both installation and safety challenges. Up to a 1.5H:1V slope was experienced at this site location, for a total dam height of approximately 22m. With such a steep slope, working from heights was required for this project.
The Titan Solution
HDPE geomembrane is a high-strength, impermeable plastic liner made from high-density polyethylene, widely used in environmental and civil engineering projects to prevent fluid migration in applications like landfills, mining, and water containment systems due to its durability, chemical resistance, and UV stability.
Achievement
Even when faced with adversity the project was completed ahead of schedule which resulted in product cost savings. Daily safety briefings were also conducted (both before and after work) which was critical to our crew's health and safety.
“The Titan crew was excellent to work with, worked safely and efficiently, and completed the work well under the expected timeframe.” -Project Manager, Nuna Group of Companies.
