Challenge
The Glenmore landfill serves as the solid waste facility for the residents in the central Okanagan regional district. A landfill cell cover system was required to protect soil and air from contamination of pollutants that are created by landfill waste processing.
The Titan Solution
Titan supplied and installed a multi-layer cover system which consisted of geosynthetic clay liner, 60mil HDPE DST, 16oz nonwoven geotextile cushion and a 12oz nonwoven geotextile cover. There were also five pipe penetrations along the cell slopes where we installed pipe boots.
HDPE geomembrane is a high-strength, impermeable plastic liner made from high-density polyethylene, widely used in environmental and civil engineering projects to prevent fluid migration in applications like landfills, mining, and water containment systems due to its durability, chemical resistance, and UV stability.
Achievement
The unique shape of this landfill and limited access posed some challenges for the installation crews and contractor but were easily overcome through efficient team work. The customer was very pleased with Titan’s quality of work our focus on service and our ability to supply the product quickly.
