Challenge

In April 2017, a diesel bund and disused surge vessel at Gazeley, UK required remediation to ensure safe containment of hydrocarbons. Traditional solutions like sprayed liners or poured concrete were considered, but the site’s role in Anglian Water’s innovation-focused “Shop Window” initiative called for a more advanced and efficient approach.

The Titan Solution

Titan introduced CC Hydro™ through the Water Innovation Network, offering a concrete-impregnated geotextile with a hydrocarbon-resistant geomembrane. Installed by Barhale under Anglian Water’s IOS Alliance, the material was laid with thermal welding for rapid quality control and formed a durable, impermeable barrier ideal for bund lining.

Concrete Canvas® (CC) is a Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mat (GCCM), a factory-produced material combining cement within geosynthetic layers that hardens when hydrated for erosion control and weed suppression.

Achievement

The CC Hydro™ system successfully remediated the diesel bund, maintaining volume capacity and delivering a high-performance, chemically resistant containment solution that aligned with Anglian Water’s innovation goals.
