BGM - Mine Process Upset

BGM- Mine process upset

Industry

Mining

Challenge:

K+S Potash Canada’s new potash mine—the first greenfield project in Saskatchewan in over 40 years—included the construction of two containment ponds, for which Titan was contracted by Pro Canada West to provide geosynthetic solutions for both primary and secondary containment.

Achievement:

Titan was able to provide full support and services required by the contractor and engineers involved in the project, including qualified materials with installation and testing according to the required specifications.

Product Used:

HDPE Geomembrane Liner, Bituminous Geomembrane (BGM), Geocomposite

Location: Bethune, Saskatchewan

Project Type: Product Supply & Installation

Product Used: Bi-Planar geocomposite, 60mil HDPE geomembrane, and 4.00mm Bituminous Geomembrane (BGM).

Challenge

K +S Potash Canada was building the first greenfield potash mine in Saskatchewan inBGM- Mine process upset2 more than 40 years. The project involved the construction of two ponds vital to K + S’s mining system. Titan was hired by Pro Canada West to satisfy all geosynthetic needs for both primary and secondary containment of the ponds. The first was a Process Upset Pond for surplus from solutions used in the mining process, and the second a Storm Water Pond to collect rainstorm water.

Titan Solution

The ponds were designed with a three-layer geosynthetic system including Bi-Planar geocomposite, 60mil HDPE geomembrane, and 4.00mm Bituminous Geomembrane (BGM).

Bituminous geomembrane, known as BGM liner, is a specialty geomembrane with composite layers that make it stronger, more watertight, and more durable than resin-based geomembranes.

Achievement

Titan was able to provide full support and services required by the contractor and engineers involved in the project, including qualified materials with installation and testing according to the required specifications.
